Founded on the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, the Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J McGivney, assistant pastor at St. Mary’s Church, New Haven, Connecticut.
His intention was to bring financial aid and assistance to members and their families.
From these humble beginning, the Knights of Columbus has grown, into a worldwide Catholic fraternity with over 1.9 million members, dedicated to improving communities and parishes.
Council 17693, Blessed Carlo Acutis received its charter (was founded) on March 25th, 2021, the feast of the Annunciation.
The council is open to members of all ages, however, like our namesake Blessed Carlo, we try and host events that young adults would find interesting. Events are held all over Ontario, but predominantly focused on the GTA.
Some of our past events were; fraternal retreat in Marmora, hamper distributions in Toronto, ice fishing in Beaverton, fly with a knight in Burlington, bowling social in Etobicoke and dave&busters social in Oakville.
Our charter grand knight (founding president) was Andrei Dias, and our current Grand Knight is Tharaka Perera.
